Years ago men knew what it was like to be a man. Men respected women and held them in high regards. Men held open doors for women out of respect and stood closest to the road to protect them. Men knew what it was like to have one woman and only one woman and to have more than one was scandalous. Though men tried to lure a woman into bed, but respected the word, “No.” Where did these men go? Were they sucked up by an alien life force? Women killed these men, but not a physical sense. Women burned their bras and demanded equal rights. In demanding these rights, we slowly started killing off the gentlemen. Women didn’t want a man to hold a chair or a door because they felt it made them appear weak and helpless. Slowly men didn’t know how to be men, because women constantly criticized them for their efforts. We, the mothers of boys, have done our sons a great disservice by not teaching them how a man should behave. We, the mother of girls, haven’t taught our daughters how men should treat them. As time marches on men know less and less on how to be men. Why should they be gentlemen, when we don’t demand it of our men and our sons? Most women say, “I can do anything a man can do.” The question is: why would you want to? As a woman just because a man can do it, doesn’t mean I should be doing it. Each gender was created with strengths and weaknesses and that is the way it should be. Will you dare to be a gentleman in this current world?
